The Story
I come to a doorway. It is wooden, and hand-carved with stars and suns that remind me of my place on earth. I pass through this threshold, and I enter another time, another place, another way.
I see tanned, wrinkled hands painting a yellow flower on a white-washed, masonry stove. Red geraniums brighten a window sill. Streams of sunlight shine through an intricately cut paper curtain. Under a thatched roof, atop a high bed, stitch by stitch, a dream garden sprouts to fertile life: hand-embroidered fruits and flowers populate plump, homespun pillows and feather quilts. A kitchen garden pulses with life just beyond the cottage window: rosemary, roses, sunflowers, nasturtium and dill.
I share a simple life, hard work, and gratitude. We thank the creator for the cycle. We acknowledge deep mysteries and pass them on through simple symbols. We work with our hands in paper cutouts and wood carving, bright paint and embroidery: birth, life, death. The sacred and the everyday walk hand and hand. The toil on the land touches the spirits of the sky.
I've entered the place where my ancestor’s souls reside. My roots reach and pulled me here. My Slavic soul has returned home.

In the summer of 2011 I took a life changing trip to Poland and Hungary to meet and spend time with my families in these two countries for the first time. Another mission of the trip was to study the ethnography, specifically the visual arts and textiles, found in the peasant arts of Poland and Hungary.

Winter Holiday Cards, 2013
These new holiday cards are prints of original Christmas tree and snowflake paper cuts that I made this past fall. The red Christmas tree comes with a red envelope, the green Christmas tree comes with a green envelope and the rest of the designs come with a white envelope. I can also make these designs available as archival prints if you are interested and will print on demand.

Tree of Life Series
Original paper cuts inspired by the Tree of Life designs found in Polish Wycinanki. The Tree of Life is a universal symbol found in almost all cultures. I love what this symbol represents: a link between the earthly world, the sky, the heavens and the spirit. A powerful symbol of growth and regeneration the tree of life represents immortality through it's lifetime of continuous growth and then development of fruit and seeds that allow the tree to live on.
